Landscape Lighting

The oxymoron "less is more" applies to many things – including outdoor landscape lighting. The goal of landscape lighting is not to illuminate the entire front yard, but to purposefully place a few outdoor lights to highlight beautiful aspects of your home. The combination of light and shadows will give your home a decorative look, while brightening dark areas of your yard will make your home noticeable in your neighborhood and provide safety light for well-traveled areas within your property.

Low-voltage landscape lighting is ideal for illuminating steps, walkways, stone walls, fences, trees, and other major landscape features.

Although landscape lighting is necessary at night, during the day, the last thing you want to see is a bunch of metal lights scattered throughout your perfectly groomed yard. To make certain that your landscape lighting remains hidden while the sun is shines, conceal the light source behind bushes, tree branches, shrubs, lawn sculptures, or other natural flora.

If you're uncertain what kind of landscape lighting you would like for your home, create a list of all the areas of your yard that you may want to draw attention to in order of significance. Also, try driving past your home from both directions during the day and at night. Do you have a favourite tree in your yard that you admire during that day but that gets lost in the dark at night? Up-light it with a spotlight to enjoy it all the time! Just remember when you're planning your landscape lighting that it's usually more eye-catching to emphasize areas throughout your property, rather than creating an evenly distributed design.
